Terms
Draft of 23 October 2026
These are the terms for the Commonplace beta. They are short on purpose. By ticking the box when you sign up, you agree to them and confirm you have read the privacy note.
What this is
- Commonplace is a Pilgrim Technologies product. During the beta it is run by Devin Halladay.
- It is a beta, by invitation only. It will change, it may break, and it may lose things. Keep your own copy of anything you can't afford to lose; Settings has an export for that.
- You must be 18 or over to use it.
- The beta is free. It has limits on how much a home can hold and how often agents can call it. If we ever start charging, we'll tell you first, and nothing is charged without your agreement.
No promise of uptime
We work to keep your home available, but we make no promise that it will be. A home can be slow to wake, unavailable during an update, or down for longer. We provide Commonplace as it is, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows.
Your content
- What you and your agents put in your home is yours. We claim no rights to it beyond what we need to store it, serve it to you and your agents, back it up and keep it secure.
- You are responsible for what you connect: an agent you give a key can read and change your home within what its key allows. The apps behind those agents follow their own terms.
Acceptable use
Don't use Commonplace to:
- break the law, or store content you have no right to store;
- try to reach anyone else's home, or test our security without our written agreement (we welcome reports at hello@commonplace.computer);
- overload the service on purpose, or get around its limits;
- resell or share access to your home with people who weren't invited.
Ending
- You can delete your home from Settings at any time. It closes at once, and it is erased within 24 hours in normal operation and never later than 7 days. The privacy note says what that removes and when backups expire.
- We may end the beta, or close a home that breaks these terms. Unless there is a security or legal reason not to, we'll give you notice and the chance to export your home first.
Support
Support is by email, at hello@commonplace.computer, on a best-effort basis.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data, arising from the beta. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited.
Changes
We'll email you before these terms change in a way that matters, and ask you to agree again the next time you open your home.
